Saga of a Knight (part 7)

Discovering himself floating in the center of a sea of confusion, without any memories of how he arrived at this location, and no concept of what he was to do now…

The bold knight was left sinking deeper and deeper with distress and frustration, as the weight of his armor was dragging him down. The sea held him captive, with its relentless grip, through powers that were a complete mystery to the knight. As he found himself unable to stay above the surface, the sea of confusion completely engulfed our knight into a world unlike any he had encountered before.

The knight was now in a world of non-reason. Although he possessed the power and might to overcome any physical obstacle, he soon discovered that in this world, physical strength provided no assistance in understanding or escaping his new environment. He has entered into a world beyond his control. Facing an environment that his position, past adventures, and general Knightness accounted for nothing, he became yet another particle floating within the sea of confusion.

The knight soon found himself in many encounters with other beings of this sea, some of who ‘fell’ into the sea for some unexplainable reason, as the knight had, and others who did not know that there was anything but the sea. The beings that only know of the sea were quite content, and to a degree happy, although they had no understanding why. The remaining beings, were in various degrees of confusion and understanding. They retained some memory of the world outside of this sea, and were in desire to return to the world that made sense.

The interactions between these two groups created additional confusion, as the ‘locals’ had no understanding of the world that the ‘visitors’ spoke of, and really had no desire to understand. Content in their confusion, they existed within their survival, without the desire to understand, control, or leave. They were happy.

The ‘visitors’ sole desire was to escape, by whatever means required. There was no happiness to be held by these beings.

The knight was without happiness, burdened by his strong desire for that which he could not find, and slowly drowning in the sea.

The sea offered no clues regarding the other world, not a hint of the meaning or of the actions that destined the knight to life within the sea. All attempts to gain understanding of this environment yielded nothing but unanswered questions, more confusion, and insecurity.

Being one who had always been ‘in control’ of his situations, the knight became very frustrated in this predicament. The only safety he had was from the protection provided by his mighty suit of armor, and as long as he wore it, nothing, not even the sea of confusion, could conquer his sole.

The knight attempted to escape the prison of the sea. First he attempted to swim to the surface, but the sea was too deep, and his armor weighted him down. Next he tried to isolate himself from the control of the sea, hiding from the perceived power and influences flowing throughout the sea’s currents. Although he found less distress in his hiding, there was no satisfaction, only a new prison, created through his own actions.

While sitting in his self-imposed isolation, completely unaware of the effects that the forces of nature were having upon him, the knight settled down to think. His thoughts turned to his hopes, his desires, his dreams, all of which take place in the ‘other world’. As these thoughts entered his brain, the currents of the sea floated the confusion through the mud and muck of the sea floor, creating a cloud of confusion, blocking the knight from seeing anything.

No longer could he sustain a thought of his dreams without it becoming clouded by confusion, and soon he gave up.

It was at this point, whence the knight had lost his will to fight, lost all desire to overcome his captivity within the sea, the knight resigned himself to a life without satisfaction. Unfulfilled dreams. Unacknowledged desires. A life, if you could call it one, of just living.

Now, resigned to the loss of his hopes, the knight attempted to leave his seclusion, and enter into his ‘new’ world. But when he attempted to move from his hiding place, he discovered that he was unable to move at all. Through the actions of nature, the sea of confusion had caused his suit of armor to rust. His only chance to move, and leave his isolation was to remove the armor.

But without his armor, he would no longer have his protection. Could he survive in the sea of confusion without his armor?

Could he survive anywhere without it?
